15th August: Independence

"At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom. A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance..... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again." jawaharlal nehru, august 15th 1947

August 8- Good Luck (UE photo challenge)

Am including 2 pictures on the theme Good Luck contrasting two identities, or two world's shall i call it.

While a young kid is feeling lucky catching a fish on the coast of the african continent, his brother looks on with neither any pretence, jealousy nor any happiness in his eyes.

Travelling eastwards, we find the indian subcontinent where people can go to lengths to get that 'religous' good luck and be in nice terms with the heavens above. seen are people of the sikh religion, taking a dip in the chilly waters of 'hemkund lake' for that extra bit of luck desired by everyone.
